We also have hired a young lady as a full time associate...

I feel your pain Bam. I had a great 30 yr old assistant & one that is 40.
Perfect. Worked hard, could think for themselves & went above & beyond.
Darn, the 30yr old moved away & the 40yr went back to school.

I don't really have to have a full time assistant, but it helps.
So I've been doing without til I found the right one, hopefully I think I have found her. She is starting in a week. I've known her for 30 yrs, trust her implicitly & she's a retired professor. No baby sitting needed, she's 68 & a firecracker.

So, why would a retired professor want to work for me?
This is where you find YOUR answer Bam.
It's because she wants to learn & apprentice under me.
She's interested!!

Finding people who are interested in what they are doing for work is the key.
Makes all the difference in the world. Find someone with a passion for law & what it entails.

Sometimes it takes a little grooming, but if you are as good as you say you are, then the young law student or young lawyer would have everything to gain by observing you. Maybe what you need to work on is having your potential employees see the value in working with you is not just about the paycheck, but that it goes far beyond that in the education they will receive.

And I'll tweak that just a little, Isabella. I find it infinitely easier, more fun and worthwhile to work with someone I admire even if I am not so fond of the work itself. With someone I don't admire or, worse, don't respect, the job could be exactly what I've always wanted but it would be no fun, much harder and not worth my time.
