Re: Things that make you go "Yum"
I wonder where you buy those locally? I'd try Caire, or call Liuzza's and ask where they get 'em. Caire Restaurant & Hotel Supply http://www.cairesupply.com 433 North Bernadotte Street New Orleans, LA 70119-4311 (504) 482-0294 Thx for the michelada recipe -- never woulda thought to use grapefru...

Fat, stacked slabs of Creole tomato and mozzarella, fresh-picked basil, olive oil, chunky grey salt and freshly cracked black pepper.
Re: Galvez
The restaurant itself is a stunner, but the service and the food on two occasions was lacking in a major way. 5 out of 10 is generous. Not that this thread will make you want to go, but the French Market had a "Talk & Tapas" series at Galvez. Unfortunately, I think the last one of the ...

Re: Wine Tasting help
I'd go with a good local caterer before Whole Foods -- the prices will probably be comparable (if not better) with a local caterer. I also think the caterer will be more helpful in pairing the appetizer menu with the wine you're tasting. Wish I knew of some good caterers, but I'm new to town. I'm su...

Re: Nom Nom truck in NOLA
Doh! You missed a good lemongrass tofu banh mi. I'd bet their flakiness has something to do with the challenge/competition. Nom Nom normally posts their whereabouts on Twitter (nomnomtruck), but there were no updates or mentions of N.O. at all -- Food Network must've kiboshed updates to keep the com...

Re: Let's talk about food.
Sit at the bar, drink, and snack -- that's the universal advice I've gotten (and given) about Ralph's on the Park. I can't speak for the real menu, but I'm always happy to sit at the bar, drink a few glasses of wine and snibble. I do remember the wine list being kinda pricey--$12 for an eh glass of ...

Re: Let's talk about food.
I've had several meals at Green Goddess lately. I really like this place, despite its spotty service and breathe-on-your-neighbor tight quarters. The trick is to go at off times -- Thursday night for an early dinner, Tuesday-Thursday, late lunch. I've had unbelievable dishes (snails, tails, tasso, C...

Re: Byblos Now Open on Citrus & ?
globe9: do any of the Middle Eastern restaurants here have lamb shawarma on the menu? I know Byblos has chicken shawarma. Any lamb? Not the ground-up/gyro-style--I'm looking for a place that stacks marinated strips of lamb (only lamb) on the spit.
