Re: Do you miss Chef Chris Debarr?

Thanks Doc, for the link. I've always been a fan of Chef Chris' food, but found myself hardpressed to get anyone to go to the Delachaise with me with any frequency. My MFDC especially, since we're late nighters and always looking for something good past 9, 10, 11pm in that general area on a weekly b...

Re: food prices.

Instead of eating out twice every weekend, we eat out twice a month. Buy all meat on sale. We both brown bag our lunches. I watch the circulars and keep a well-stocked pantry and don't waste a thing. I have been keeping records of what things have cost in the last 6 months and the money I've saved,...

Re: Yellow vs. Red Beets

Cho, I find beets to sometimes be a real "product of nature" whose MMV. The range of flavors that come from each beet can be really different. I've had some great golden beets and some others that were terrible & bland. I love beets! I cook them like you do. I also like to shred or thi...

Re: My love affair with Crabby Jack's

In the biz, there are many products for saving/marrying ketchup bottles. It always seemed like the most ridiculous thing, but many places use them to save a few dollars. To me, it seems pretty easy to tell by looking at the bottles if they were new, but if not re-used to the extreme, it may be hard...

Re: Air Travel Nostalgia

I always just feel DIRTY and want to take a shower. I'm sorry, but I'm not putting on a nice skirt, blouse, and shoes for that experience. I can relate to the DIRTY feeling after flying & wanting a shower. I blast that overhead A/C vent on myself & that helps. Actually, wearing a light summ...

Re: Has the absence of food writers from this board helped stimulate discussion?

Let's face facts, we were pretty stagnant in the six months or so before the changeover at TOB. I concur. In fact, I acknowledge I've been in a food funk. A few days ago after participating on this board I could feel some of that lifting. I began to think about what restaurants that I haven't been ...

Re: Vintage Kitchen Appliances

We have a ceramic fondue pot, with stand and burner, from the 1960's. Miraculously it has never cracked or broken although we use it regularly. All of the other fondue pots I have ever seen have been metal. I never considered it as "vintage", but it might be such. Picture on request. My f...
