Re: My most anticpated restaurant opening in years

Maybe my sense of humor is not up yet, but Ramblas is the main street in Barcelona. Think of Canal Street, at its peak in 1965 instead of the abomination of a Main Street it has become despite C. Ray's palm trees but much more narrow, with the neutral ground in each block being taken up by differen...

Re: A Wine Dinner with Chris DeBarr

I'm sure there would be no shortage of people on hand to assist you in drinking your wine, particularly the big reds.

A Wine Dinner with Chris DeBarr

Consider this a little insider's pre-announcement just for this board, but on October 1st I'm hosting a Justin Vineyards wine dinner with Chef Chris DeBarr and Joseph Spellman who is the winery sommelier for Justin Vineyards. We're doing a 5 course meal with Chris cooking and Joseph on the wines. It...

I've never been so violently ill as I was when I once went to a cigar dinner at the abita brew pub. I'm a significant lightweight when it comes to cigars and the cigars they had were very, very strong. Add a few Andygators to light the powder keg and before I knew it I was depositing the contents of...

Re: Best American Band of all time

I was a kid of the 80's, so I have some bias, but:

for kicking a$$:
Rush (NORTH American)
Van Halen (pre 1984)
and of course, The Crüe!

for cerebral pleasure:
Uncle Tupello

for funking you to death:
The Meters

Herbsaint - a place that's on top of their game

Had dinner with 6 at Herbsaint last night and it was just beyond amazing. The service was precise and the food was just spot on perfect. The gnocchi is just heaven on a fork, the frog legs are ethereal (though I suspect its virtually the same dish as the fried chicken livers at Cochon) and the pork ...

My most anticpated restaurant opening in years

is Kenny Lacour's new Spanish tapas place. http://blog.nola.com/brettanderson/2008/08/new_spanish_restaurant_finds_i.html#more I really think the name is unfortunate, and a bunch of mullet heads will no doubt make the requiste N*mbla jokes. I understand the name is a traditional Spanish one, but so ...
