I have as have many of my friends and family.
The Nov. 2 editorial page did it for me.
How stupid for a local paper to indorse a national candidate...even Gambit would not do that.
I am about to cancel, but it is not really about the Obama thing. The paper really has just gone to crap. The money section is a joke, even on Sundays.
I can only take so much of Jarvis Deberry, Lolis, and James Gill. Still shocked(or maybe not) that neither Jarvis or Lolis has had the courage to write the article that is needed to slam the black community of N.O. for voting Jefferson back in.
Now they just went up to $16 a month and I can just read it on the internet if I really wanted to.
I canceled mine twelve years ago - lol. Had to go off on one of their telemarketers after refusing 5 calls and asking them not to call. when they sent the paperboy I threatened to call the police since I lived in a no soliciting condo complex.

That is another thing I did not understand about them and their 1970's business practices. I have been receiving the paper for 10 years, yet I still get the knocks at the door and the phone calls asking me to sign up to recieve the paper. I know some of this stuff is contracted out, but I would think with modern technology(or a simple spreadsheet) they could give these folks a list of who not to bother as they are already a customer.

I have not been a subscriber for several years, but have been a daily reader for as long as I can remember. I love reading the "paper". However, I have purchased only one T/P since the Obama endorsement (last Firday, for the college football tv listings and the Langiappe.
I haven't missed reading it for 7 of the last 8 days, but again, thats not a lot of time.
Overall, I think the future of newspapers is bleak. Young people do not get up in the morning and read the paaper with a cup of coffee, as was the case for me and my parents (and theirs before).
And I agree tha tthere is not much to the TP anymore.

I agree that the quality of reporting and the content of the regular things like the tv section, editorial and the comics are lacking. Less paper more bucks; I still like to read it during my lunch hour, but am thinking of not renewing after this last 3 or 6 months are up.

That is my problem. I have been reading the paper with my morning coffee since I was 12 years old. Going to be a hard habit to break, but I will survive. Maybe I can use the extra time to exercise or something. :)
I still get it, but rarely read it. It usually just goes in the garbage.
I was out of town during election time, but I dug through those issues to find a copy for a friend. Did anyone else notice that while the election day paper was dated "Tuesday, November 4", the next day's paper was dated "Tuesday, November 5". I still have those copies. Heh.

I was a subscriber for a very long time. After the storm, I called to reestablish delivery. And while I was paying for seven issues per week, I was rarely delivered seven issues per week. I got so fed up having to go out and buy a Sunday paper that I just refused to pay my bill. They terminated the subscription, yet I still manage to have the paper delivered to my house several times a week. Sometimes more than when I was paying for it.

If you arise before 11:00a.m, you can call the automated system to have a missed paper redelivered or credited. They will also replace/credit wet papers.

Having just moved back, I was considering whether or not to subscribe. This thread has confirmed my suspicion that it isn't worth it.
