anybody else looking to go off grid?
Not I, but I have a friend trying to learn how to make Brown's Gas - LOL. He claims that a generator running off of Brown's gas combined with a small hydro-electric generator will be enough for he and his family to live off the grid. He has some land on the north shore.
Anyone else know much about Brown's Gas?

Not completely "off grid", but I was considering installing PV panels for Net Metering. Unfortunately, enough panels to cover my current usage would cost around 56K, and the ROI would be well over 20 years. I'm now looking into conservation methods and have found a company that uses "Green" spray in insulation for attics, etc. I've also installed a tankless water heater and that seems to be saving about 30 to 40 percent of my gas usage, compared to my old tank type system.

According to most researchers, the main problem with HHO is that the energy required to convert water to HHO exceeds the output, thus negating any cost savings. That said, if/when PV panels come way down in price, that equation may change leading the way for a combined system of PV during daylight and HHO when the sun goes down.
