View Full Version : This Is A Good Question!

Posed to former President Clinton: "What's the difference between an association with someone like David Duke and an association with someone like Reverend Wright?"
Dig the 5 seconds of stunned silence, followed by the weak excuse that "we don't have to go there, because Obama left the church." When Greta reminds him that it was only AFTER receiving national criticism that he left, B.J. mumbles that the election is "about different things."
Enjoy!

Rev. Wright?? That's ancient history.
Oh, the sweet smell of desperation by his supporters in the twilight of McCain's career.

"Obama's twenty-year membership in a racist church? His 'spiritual mentor' who preaches that the government created AIDS to kill blacks?"
"That's soooo yesterday."
Thank you for at least acknowledging his membership in a racist church is on a par with associating with the KKK. I didn't think you had it in ya.
It does not matter Pelican - people will vote for him because he speaks well and looks good and has a good line of BS. It is a popularity contest, not an election.

Exactly like the editorship of the Harvard Law Review that his supporters are so giddy about.
I'm not trying to break any new ground here. Just highlighting the fact that even Bill Clinton is completely unenthused about the prospect of a President Obama.

Indeed he (Bill) is - he went off on a tangent recently about how wonderful Biden is. I thought to myself that "I bet Obama wishes Bill had the same enthusiasm about Obama that he does for Biden".

You extrapolated my condoning comparing Obama having attended Rev Wright's church in the past to supporting the KKK from a three word exclamation. I debated with myself on whether or not I should dignify that kind of strawman and red herring argumentative tactics with a response, but I feel that I'll likely have to later defend what I actually meant if I don't do it now.
I meant only that to bring up Rev. Wright for any reason (and I'm not making any comment what Wright has or hasn't done) when it has been quite soundly shown to not have any sticking power months ago is a silly point to make. I realize you're not trying to break new ground, but it does smatter of desperation.
I know I'm not voting for John McCain. His stated policies scare the crap out of me. I've voted Republican in the last two elections, but I can't bring myself to do so this one.

Yes.
Are you sure you're using it correctly? Wouldn't "smacks" be a more appropriate fit?

You may be right, though I'd need to get an etymologist in here to be sure. I'll leave it at that I make mistakes now and then too, but it still doesn't detract from my original point. It still smatters/smacks of desperation.

I guess Toddma will be okay with you correcting other's grammar, Six. I agree FWIW. The word is smacks, not smatter.
Cho. I think you showed a great deal of composure and grace in dealing with the bullying on the other board. I think you deserved an apology.

What does he have to do with this thread?
I'm (lightly) picking on her because she will respond to any question. Like for example:

Why would a bug specialist's opinion be any more valid than mine?

Well I wasn't chiding you. On another thread I corrected someone and he jumped on me. Because you guys are friends, I think he would be okay with you doing it. I find that inconsistency to be annoying, that's all. Just a sort of irritated observation. I probably ought to just remove the post.

Etymologist: a specialist in etymology
Etymology: the history of a linguistic form (as a word) shown by tracing its development since its earliest recorded occurrence in the language where it is found
Entomology: a branch of zoology that deals with insects

That's an admirable attempt at covering your ass. ;) I'll give you a 2/10. It would have been a 5 if you'd found some way not to be quite so transparent about it.

I majored in English in a former life, Cho. If you ever want to borrow my copy of The Elements of Style, well - you can't. Get your own.
That was going to be another jab on the order of calling you a racist for the "Chinese Menu version of Christianity" remark.
But I know it warms your little ticker to consider yourself my intellectual better. Far be it from me to correct you. Again.

You can keep it! I received that in Freshman English Lit in high school. It's a marvelous book.

Sadly true...many "Americans" now treat elections like they do "American Idol" or some such pop culture rubbish.
Can anyone tell me how Dollar Bill Jefferson got into the runoff yesterday?...Please tell me!
