#7 throw away to do list.

it looks like the republicans who had some sack will capitulate. too bad. if the bailout includes dumb regional banks like CPB (see sunday's money section) then i will be very very hot.
Well, I doubt the Senate is going to pass this unless the Senate ignores the will of the people. I just got off the the phone with Mary Landrieu's office and the nice lady I spoke to said the calls are 99% against the bail out. She asked me a bunch of questions as to why I am for it, and then she agreed that personally she was for it as well.
I called Vitter's office and said I would like to the Senator to vote for the bill tonigh and the response was "OK, I wil let him know. "

Why would anyone support that monstrosity of a bill? It is bad enough that we have government ownership of a private company (AIG), we are now interfering with the market, by overpaying for assets with an inflated value.

The bill the House voted against was a horrible piece of legislation. I am hoping the Senate bill is less horrible, but if no bill is passed what will happen? The stock market is up and down, but the credit markets are drying up.
The AIG bailout sucked, but AIG is a multi-national company, and the foreigner banks threatened to pull their money out of the US markets if we did not bail them out. The alternative was actually worse then the bailout.

The Senate Bill went from 415 pages to 451 pages. I'm told that it is full of pork and ear-marks, including something for sheep ranchers.
I'm trying to scan it today. How can the senators who will be voting (including the guys running around the country making empty promises) have any idea what is hidden in those 451 pages without the opportunity (how about a week or two) to read and digest it in detail?

The following phrase is on page 1. What the hell does this have to do with financial rescue?
...require equity in the provision of mental
health and substance-related disorder benefits under
group health plans, to prohibit discrimination on the
basis of genetic information with respect to health insurance and employment, and for other purposes.

It means, if the bill passes but everything tanks anyway, you are going to be depressed, suicidal and drinking a lot and need a rubber room for a while and your @#! HMO damn well better pay for it!:D
Well, they passed it 74 24 with Obama voting for it and McCain voting against it.
Now it goes to the House.
Fox news is reporting email is 95% against, and as I stated earlier when I called Mary Landrieu's office this morning I was told that calls and email were 99% against.
It appears I am in the minority on this one, so I am thinking strongly of running for the Senate -lol.
"In order to be truly free we must allow ourselves the freedom to fail" - that is quote from an email read on the news from someone called Dwayne who was against the "bail out". Interesting, has anyone ever heard that one before?
Oh well, the drama continues...

I have Medicare plus additional coverage, and am presently in the "Donut Hole" (that's a little thing you seniors will know about where medicare drug coverage stops and you pay list for about $1,500 big ones!).
McCain voted for the bill, not against. My mistake, and according to news the vote was 74-25.

I can't believe anyone would add one thing to these bills! Let's see who added anything and blast those idiots to bits! The nerve!
I actually do not think they know we are watching! Reminiscent of the ignorant LA legislation trying to push their pay raise.
Can we dump this system and improve it to a system that is for the good of the people, and not the good of the idiots doing this stupid crap on a daily basis?
I'm fed up!
The only sensible thing to do in this ridiculous dictatorship in which we live to fix our supposed financial problems is to give each person living in the USA $5,000,000,000.00 each. This would negate any need for people to borrow money, thus solving this supposed problem. This plan is no more or less idiotic than giving failed businesses my money.

Just a little correction, based upon what I heard on CSPAN this morning, both McCain and Obama voted for it last night.
Edited to add: Oops. Just saw your correction Alex. Never mind.
While I am all about governments supporting the will of the people, I'd say a lot of the "people" don't have a good grasp on the long reaching effects of a credit freeze and bank failure. I don't like the idea of golden parachutes for the CEO's, but I'm equally flabbergasted at the public whining about helping those who bought houses they knew they couldn't afford. Now we're all going to take it up the ass for other people's greed.
Schuarta, what's happening with issues like the one pointed out is the pork that they added, aiming at specific naysayers and their pet projects. This has tacked on an extra 150 billion (pork) onto the Bill in the process. They have raised insurance to 250,000 which was one major problem I'm glad they're addressing, but still...I'm just trying to decide if the pain we'll feel for not being able to pass a bill will be worse than the pain we'll feel for passing it.
I'm a layman when it comes to the economy, so, perhaps someone else can explain.
It seems Landrieu voted against as well. I watched the live streaming coverage and could have sworn the guy reading the votes said McCain no and Landrieu yes, but I must be mistaken.
I got email from Scalise's campaign in response to my objection to his vote on Monday. Scalise has his own plan and will not be voting for this bill - whatever. We shall see how it all shakes out - for better or worse.

Bill or no bill, that sounds like an accurate assessment of things to come.

I was rereading what I wrote, and realized how much this crap reminds me of having to pass something painful and equally onerous, like a kidney stone.

I've actually passed one kidney stone this week, I have it in a baggie. It certainly doesn't help my disposission this week considering the new value of my retirement savings (IRA & Roth), and the lowlife in D.C.
