I was not at all expecting that and I have never heard of her until today. I will have to do some googling and reading.

I know she flies her own float plane, and I would guess she "carries". I've read a little so far, and the more I read the more I like her!

That is more than I know at this point other than she is Gov of Alaska and is into all kinds of ethics stuff. She kicked the encumbent Govs butt (DEM) when she got elected. (if I remember hearing that correctly)

Here are some of her highlights....

...the one shining victory in which a Republican star was born.

...Sarah Palin, a politician of eye-popping integrity

...the most popular governor in America

...an approval rating in the 90s

...vetoed 13 percent of the state's proposed budget

...She became a hero in the eyes of the public and the press, and the bane of Republican leaders

... in the Republican primary, in a three-way race, Palin captured 51 percent and won in a landslide

...She defeated former Democratic governor Tony Knowles in the general election, 49 percent to 41 percent

...Palin is unabashedly pro life

...The landscape is littered with the bodies of those who crossed Sarah

...she is eager to keep Alaska free from domination by oil companies

...She's a hockey mom, she lives on a lake, she ice fishes, she snowmobiles, she hunts, she's an NRA member, she has a float plane, and her husband works for BP on the North Slope!

There's a good start for you all!

Wall Street Journal columnist and former Reagan speechwriter Peggy Noonan and former John McCain adviser, Time columnist, and MSNBC contributor Mike Murphy were caught on tape disparaging John McCain's selection of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as his Vice Presidential running mate.

"It's over," Noonan said.

When Chuck Todd asked her if this was the most qualified woman the Republicans could nominate, Noonan responded, "The most qualified? No. I think they went for this, excuse me, political bull**** about narratives. Every time the Republicans do that, because that's not where they live and that's not what they're good at, they blow it."

Murphy characterized the choices as "cynical" and "gimmicky."

There's a reason Mike Murphy is sitting out this election and while Noonan is a lovely woman and greater writer, no one in the Republican party is really seeking her advice on any policy matters.

The dismissiveness of Palin has not just come from the Dems but from the out of touch country club Republicans as well.

I don't care. She's f-ing hot.

Oh please. It IS gimmicky. What did McCain's critics often say? He's the same old same old.: old white man running. What has Obama been struggling with? Winning over the women that would have voted for Hillary.

Suddenly McCain picks his veep as a woman who's track record is (there's that ole maverick!) , if not less than stellar, certainly doesn't make her the most qualified. Come on. As a gun owner and a hunter, I applaud her, even adore her. But if you don't see it as a giant political gimmick, then you really need your head checked.

How is it a gimmick? The goal is to win the election. I was ho hum on McCain and was basically going to vote against Obama. Now I am an enthusiastic supporter of this ticket. I don't fit into any of the demographics that she is designed to appeal to.

Fair enough. What are her historic qualifications that have made you support her? From what' I've read they've been less than confidence inducing.

Hey Cho, you purport to be familiar with things scientificy, so what is more compelling to you, a person whose career and accomplishments are growing geometrically or even exponentially over time or someone in steady state? PTA to Anti-corruption/reform Gov of a huge state that is strategically critical is no mean feat, especially vs. entrenched politicians and ole' boys. I am doubly glad they chose her because Jindal has two terms of work here to unscrew us.
McCain, who I may not agree with philosophically on all things is certainly right here. The lefty pundits are just pissed that he did not pick some uninspired plodder like Romney or Pawlenty and lose gracefully. Not to mention being trumped by the "old white guy" at the identity politics game.

Cho, its time for you to do some reading and research. I spent the day after her announcement pulling up everything I could find. This gal has a hellova background and list of personal and professional achievements. She's no Hillery. She is likely to be your first women president.

Ok. I realize it might be a little silly trying to reason with you, but when you're ready, let's talk about one of the biggest, most recent gaffes in recent Alaska history which Palin has tried to distance herself from but was implicit in its support. Or that she signed one of the biggest operating budgets for 2006 for Alaska, while taking from local construction projects to do it. The fact of the matter is she has a history of being a BIG spender. Tell me, are you a fiscal conservative?

D&S, it may because I'm just having my first cup of coffee, but on first read of your post I wasn't quite sure what you were getting at. I'm not ignoring you, i just need to reread it when I am more awake.
