View Full Version : The corruption continues...

From the T-P:

"After backing his city-owned sport utility vehicle out of his driveway and colliding with a speeding motorcyclist, Mandeville City Attorney David Cressy did not wait for police officers to arrive.

Instead, he went to Nuvolari's restaurant and had a glass of wine before returning to the scene."

Unbelievable.

Driving a vehicle paid for by the taxpayers, with a ghost plate, he left to have a drink, to cover up the fact that he was already DUI, knowing that the Mandeville Police would defer a Field Sobriety Test.

Yeah, those running for political office are just yearning to serve the public.

Shoot 'em on sight.

I always have it as my back up plan to head to the bar after I get into an accident, don't you?

Actually I did read that the motor bike rider was going about 60 through a residentual area while half drunk, so I don't think mr. politician really did a whole lot wrong here other than maybe a little poor judgement.

Oh, Mac! Are those people SLIMY, or what????

Shame on the city and citizens of Mandeville for putting up with such arrogance. Talk about an overblown sense of entitlement!

Price and Cressy should be locked up. Hope the Feds get a whiff of this while they're looking into Price. Scumbags.

Mac, I will comment on the Cressy situation. I have not read the TP since Wednesday so I don't know what was said.

Based on what I was told, suffice to say that the motorcycle driver was travelling WELL over the speed limit and did appear to be intoxicated.

He begged Mr. Cressy to just let him go, that he was not hurt. so Cressy leaves and goes to Nuvo's. Remember, he was IN HIS CAR at the time, as in he was going somewhere (as in Novo's).

There has been much written about the problems in Mandeville in recent months, but this is a non-event. If not for the current state of affairs in Mandeville, this goes unnoticed.

Many of us would have done the same thing.

Cressy should have been charged with hit-and-run for fleeing the scene of an accident to consume an alcoholic beverage. As is becoming too customary with the Mandeville Police Department, he was not ticketed or tested and was allowed to leave.

This is not the first questionable incident involving the City Attorney. Cressy has used his city owned vehicle to take out of state trips without reimbursing the taxpayers. According to the Legislative Auditor, he charged fuel expenses to the city again without reimbursing city coffers.

How can one begin to DEFEND this creep?????????? This is inexcusable for a public official. Hope the bastard hangs.

I do like playing the game of beating up the politicos, but I would like to know if you have any information to back this up or was it just an assumption?

Sorry, TD.
The fault may well have been with the cyclist; he was speeding AND was apparently DUI.

For Cressy to leave and have a few at Nuvo's is not only the stupidest act he could have taken, it's unlawful, and reeks of a coverup.

And he was NOT in HIS car; that's a vehicle paid for by the taxpayers.
As to your statement that this would have been a non-event other than the corruption being investigated is either the most ignorant argument for standing up for these crooks, or you're on the inside yourself.

Finally, "Many of us would have done the same thing"????????

Maybe you and your crooked associates.

I would have waited for the cops, especially in light of the state of affairs in Mandeville's ongoing criminal leadership.

Of course, a visit to my bud's at Nuvo's who could testify that I had a few after the fact would offset anything prior to my faux-pas.

Aug 19th:

Rafael Goyeneche with the Metropolitan Crime Commission said those city department heads should begin by making restitution and pay back the taxpayers of Mandeville for the gas used on personal business.

According to the audit, city attorney David Cressy rang up a $235 a month gas bill..

“Both the planning director and the city attorney have said that they are absolutely willing to make whatever restitution is required,” Lenfant said.

My god! Does his arrogance not end?

Would LOVE to hear if the city attorney puts his money where his mouth is..... wanna take bets?

This **** is amazing, no adult with any sense of responsibility with have done what he did. Get real Turbodog, you're too smart to make a ridiculous statement like that. They should bring the hammer down on these guys, period. While I don't think all politicians are crooked, the ones in Louisiana sure make it seem like so. I'm very worried that we've missed the opportunity Katrina gave us to clean our political house.

Mac da Knife

I beg to differ; ALL politicians are corrupt.
The only reason to seek public service is to enrich oneself.
No exceptions, anytime, anywhere.

Show me an honorable politician. Where???

Every one of these MF's should be shot down like dogs; if not for their crimes, then for their smugness.

Boss Hogg is alive, well, and rolling in the money in Louisiana.

And it's OK, because he'll be your friend.

The Difference---

Headlines:

Last evening, Mandeville Police pulled over a driver (later identified as Mac da Knife), and issued a citation for not wearing a seatbelt. Four Mandeville Police units were expended to accost the suspected felon.
Mr. Knife was released after a field sobriety test, which was passed, and sent on his way. The fine is expected to be $25.00 plus court costs. A search of his vehicle yielded no evidence of drugs, and a full body search yielded no illegal substances.

Mr. Knife was released on his own recognizance.

In other news:

Mr. Cressy had a glass of wine after a wreck, and was sent on his way.
Patrons of the bar swearing to this:

Mr. X: He wash not intoshicated. He came in for a glash of wine...
Ms. Smith: Cresshy? Yeah, he was here the whole evening. I shwear it. hic.

Mr. River Pilot: He was here since Tuesday. No probs, sharing his kid's photos with me. He owes me $15000.00, and wouldn't have left. Hey Heather, another round, OK, sweetie?

Supposedly his wife was in the car with him and they were leaving (at 11 PM) to go and get prescriptions. (??) I don't know that many people that leave that late at night to do that , but hey he is a busy man. However, it also says he left to go and get a glass of wine to calm his nerves and thought he would be back by the time police arrived. The police were called right away when the accident occurred so that is weird off the bat, also, leaving the scene of an accident is leaving the scene of an accident and even a "non" attorney knows that. Yes there are all sides to a story, but nothing can explain away leaving the scene of an accident. (no matter whose fault it may be).

...my 2 cents

NoNoNanette

Hopefully, this story won't go away anytime soon.

DeBerry from the TP suggests that the scumbag take up cigarettes if he needs something to calm him down. This kid is a good writer, and I hope that he sticks with this and keeps it "out there" for the public.....I got a kick out of this:

What a convenient way to avoid suspicion of driving while intoxicated or to avoid being tested by one's employer: Run to the nearest restaurant, tavern, bar or corner store and drink some booze. Play dumb. Say the thought hadn't occurred to you that drinking after the fact would frustrate an investigation.

And if you're a city official whose perks include a public gas card that's been used on non-official business and an untraceable license plate designed for undercover police, you might expect police to accept your post-crash wine explanation and leave you alone.

But if remaining free of suspicion is important to you, you'd reach for something else -- even a pack of cancer sticks -- to help you calm your nerves. You'd understand that the wine glass could sound less like a means for you to relax and more like a gambit for you to avoid getting in trouble.

I have no idea if that is even a rumor, it just sounds like a good guess. I am thinking he wasn't headed to N.O. to sing karoke at Cats Meow though at that time of the night.

Mandeville city attorney dodges arrest

http://www.nola.com/news/index.ssf/2008/08/mandeville_city_attorney_dodge.html

Cressy's actions, which included leaving his client at the hospital and heading straight for the Mandeville police station, were "less than cooperative" and aroused suspicion, Palmisano said.

"He's an attorney, an officer of the court, " Palmisano said. "We wanted to put Mr. Adams back into custody, and then to have this occur at the very last minute was very upsetting."
