I'm thinking of buying a Vue Hybrid, and I'm don't know a whole lot about them. I've done some research online, and they seem decent but I haven't heard any first hand experience. Anyone?

I'd check Consumer Reports. I don't think they think much of them.

I was thinking about hybrids and the research i did changed my mind. The batteries last about a year and cost about six grand. The savings on gas is only an advantage after about 5-10 years, depending on which make/model of hybrid you get.

I'll stick to my Honda for now.

But that's just what I found looking for what I was looking for, you may have different needs/ideas and it may be worthwile for you.

Yeah, I'm not sure if I'm gonna get one or not. It's coming about time for a new car, and I'm looking at a Northshore to Southshore commute and I want something with some decent milage. I thought there were tax credits too, but it seems as if those are harder to come by nowadays. I'm thinking Honda too, you like yours?

The hybrid doesn't kick in if you are on the highway from what I understand.

I love my Honda. I have a Cr-V. Prior to that I had a few Civics (in high school and college). This car is so perfect for me. I never want anything else, ever. That's how much I like it. There is no other car I rather have. Mine is old now, but it has low miles and still runs great. I had it serviced a couple weeks ago and it feels brand new again. And I only fill up every other week and it's $50. Not bad these days.

I forget how the tax credits work, it's something like only on the first so many sold that year/model/somethingorother.

My cars:

1) "Classic" Chevy Caprice Classic, with V-8, bells and whistles, in great shape. My "winter car" with new snow tires, really "hauls" through our weather. In a few years, when it's old enough, my wife wants to paint it PINK, and enter it into Hot August Nights.

2) "Classic" Lincoln Town Car, with V-8, bells and whistles, in great shape. My "summer car" (the A/C works well).

(The above were my mom's and dad's cars from "new" so I know they were well cared for and never neglected.)

3) "Elegant" Buick Lucerine CLX, with V-6, and automatic everything including ONSTAR with safety, navigation, phone, and diagnostics. If a tire's pressure drops 2 lbs, I get an email. This is my "trip and event car". 28-30 mpg on the highway, depending on how hard I push.

I can only drive one at a time. "I don't need no friggin hybrids."

This article covers a lot of my issues with buying a hybrid now. It is all about total cost of ownership and value. Small hybrids really don't provide much better milage than a lot of regular econoboxes and you need to think about cost per passenger mile.

I ended up going with a regular-engine Accord. 31 MPG and great reliability sounded good to me. This is my first Honda, but I've never heard a Honda owner say anything but great things about them. Maybe a Hybrid next time! Thanks for all the thoughts!

Just did a trip last week in wife's 2007 Accord from Pensacola.
Results on highway only: 225 miles on 6.3 gallons - 35.71 MPG. Close enough to a hybrid for me!

Unfortunately, there is a pretty big trade off on the city mileage from our 2002 trade in. It got about 24 MPG city, and the new one only gets 19 MPG. Lots more power though. Feels very much closer to a V-6 punch.

Now to address that cute little Sky...

By the time you even think about attempting to put the top down on it, I will have the top down on the Miata, AND be tooling down the road. You have to do all kinds of tricks to get that thing down and tucked away. Miata is a one hand operation.

Oh... Miata gets 35 MPG too, if you can keep your foot off of the pedal under your right foot...

That being said...they do look great. Get the Redline V-6 edition of the Sky. Burn gas like Al GOre!

Is there no license plate, or did you blank it out for privacy?

Nice car. Plenty of room in the front seat I'll bet. Condition is beautiful.

Art, we didn't get to make it to Reno this past weekend, so it's a great possibility this coming one will be a go. The Hot August Nights sounds like a blast, we should definitely meet up if I can make it!

Be careful Jeeves, you may not get a ticket:laughup: for parking by the fire hydrant, but they will break your windows to put the hose through;)

Suzy, that's exactly what I hope will happen to the idiots in my block who park in front of the hydrant. If it's between my house burning and their car, you better know which I choose. Actually, if they would get the dogs out and let the house burn completely to the ground...I think I could win. LOL Not that I wish that, I don't, just being cheeky.

JAG:),
I hear ya!

I wondered myself what they would do, my sister asked a fireman and that's what he said...

Schurata,
That looks like a cool event!

Edited to add, you could always PRETEND to be concerned and tell them in a worried way, "Oh, you know if there's a fire, your windows will be broken"

BUT they sound like they wouldn't care if they do it all the time.....

Art, we have a huge event here on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, called Crusin the Coast. Pre Katrina, it was over 5,000 cars. As of right now, we have 2,000 registered for the October, 2008 event. If you can break yourself from todays recording session, the Speed Channel at 3:00 p.m. Eastern today has their My Classic Car with Dennis Gage airing today which was filmed at the 2007 event. The cars have to travel/cruise to be judged, no static judging. It is really a great event, and much cooler here in Oct than a hot August night.

Schedule your next trip down to NOLA to coincide. Only 60 miles from NOLA. And you can eat at Emeril's in the MS casino for lunch!

Well, some nice old lady with grey hair is now the owner of the first Classic "T-TOP" 1974 Corvette to be given away. It didn't have my name on it. Back tomorrow for Vette #2 drawing. :(
