the size of that alligator in Slidell? Wow. Poor kid. As I watched the news last night, all I could think of is this poor 11 year old child. Wow. What a tragedy.

I'm not one to literally "pray", but did so last night.

The child must have lost an extremely large amount of blood. I was "happy" to hear at noon that he's "recovering".

His arm must have been long gone after a couple of hours, wouldn't you think?

I saw one like that in a pond in north western Slidell about 3 years ago when I was fishing. It was at least ten feet if not eleven or twelve. Luckily the big gator was swimming in the middle of the pond and did not appear interested in me. I stayed vigalant anyway after that.

That is one tough child to survive an attack like that. I wish him and his family well.

Supposedly they re-attached his arm last night. (deputies cut it out of the belly of the gator, packed it in an ice chest and rushed it to the hospital). It is a wait and see if the surgery is successful. The little boy told his mother he was sorry. Then he asked her how he was going to be able to play his playstation. So sad, but he is truly lucky to be alive.

Radio reporting today contradicts that. They said it wasn't viable.

Hes, he is lucky to be alive. He sounds like a great kid. Apologizing to his mother. I hope the best for him. I think he has already been blessed.

Oh how sad. The news last night and the paper just had what I posted. It looks thought that this kid had some spunk, so hopefully he will get through this next phase of his life with good spirits.

The kid must run (or swim) with a pretty good circle of friends. I heard on the radio that one of his friends swimming with him actually poked/prodded the alligator until it let the boy go.

That takes guts.

I just watched the clip of the deputy who helped with the rescue. He said the boy was trying to pull himself up the levee on his other arm. How sad. He said the boy was asking about his paint ball gun wanting to make sure he got it back.
The media must really be trying to get info. They sent a few e-mails around today at work reminding us about privacy. When I left the parking lot there was a news van setting up a camera across the street.
I was doubtful that they had re-attached the arm. Even putting a finger or two back on takes 6 hours and special microscopes and skill. Hope he recovers quickly.

Was he by himself? That seems very young (11) even if he was with a friend to be swimming alone in open murky water without being supervised. Don't know the whole story, I just read about it online.

What a tragedy.:(

One report I heard said that there were two girls with him and one or both of them ran for help.

That was also what the newspaper reported. The news last night said only that the family wanted privacy. I think that is a good thing.
