The driveway battle with the parish continues. Pretty much, the ordinance says they can do what they want but here's the part I think they are using to stop my driveway plan.
Sect 29-169 states "At a street intersection, no driveway shall encroach upon that sidewalk area formed by the corner radius and the extension of the two property lines fronting on the intersecting streets."
My plan is for an entrance to the driveway from the front, a straight driveway, then a rounded curve 40 feet from the corner to exit on the side street. This way I don't have to back out from the front where all my neighbors park on the street. We wouldn't be interfering with anyone else's property and it's not a high traffic area.
But then the ordinance says "When the applicant for a driveway permit presents proof of hardship in connection with the above mentioned provisions of this section, the director is hereby empowered to grant exceptions to these provisions in his discretion." In other words, he can do it if he feels like it. I really don't understand this ordeal. I can have a circular drive but not a convenient drive. If I did a circular drive, I'd have to enter/exit over the street drain and pay for all that to be redone. What a PIA to get a freaking driveway.

Could these neighbors parking on the street be doing so illegally?
There are laws against parking near a corner, a driveway or across from a driveway.
I'm not sure what they are in your part of Jefferson.

I think if anyone is parking illegally, it's actually me. I park pretty close to the stop sign on the side street. I've been saving for the driveway for nearly a year now. My neighbor's across the street don't have an intersection on their side, it's the street in front of the tracks. They have a driveway which they park 3 vehicles in but they have 2 more on the street. I don't know how that fit all those people in that tiny house. I don't park in front because if I do and they do, it's a tight squeeze for anyone to get down the street.

As they say, you can't fight city hall. The engineer came out and not only denied my driveway in the front but will not let us put the one we wanted in the back. I told my husband to just tell him that we're going to use it as a patio so we can have the spot but no apron from the sidewalk to the street. What freaking morons. :covri:

Just spread some gravel on the lawn and park on it...tell them it's a rock garden.
