My final birthday was wonderful beyond what I imagined. Stella was what I could only compare to Marisol or Delachaise minus douchebaggery. Everything was great. Jag, Jeeves, sweetie and I had apps, salad, entrees and several lagniappe plates from the kitchen. The staff and Chef Boswell were friendly, gracious and not at all stuffy as I had imagined. I would recommend Stella! to anyone.

I can only hope (and pray) that it was not your "final" birthday. :covri:

It was final as in: I refuse to turn 40 so I shall have no more birthdays. Thanks for your concern. ;)

In addition to finally having a date (thanks Jeeves!) the food and service were stellar. (That cracked me up!lol)

Saw the "After Hours" program on Stella! on HDMojo again last night. It does look fascinating. Any particular standout dishes? And happy b'day!

Wow I don't know what to pick. The apps were andouille risotto and Iron Chef chili prawns. They were wonderful. We just about licked the plates. Sweetie's scallops and andouille potatoes were outstanding but jag's sea bass was kick-ass as well. The creme brulee crusted ice cream was spectacular. Just go, close your eyes and point at the menu. Thanks for the bday wishes!

I'm so glad you enjoyed it -- I absolutely love Stella!; it's one of my very favorite restaurants in the city and I always feel as if it doesn't get talked about enough. Happy final Birthday!

My sister decided to take a slightly different tack after turning 34 - she started to count backwards for several years (34, 33, 32, 31, 30) and then had regular birthdays again from there.

I also have a colleague whop simply celebrates the anniversary of her 39th birthday every year. Lots of different ways to deal with this topic!

I too love Stella!. I have often thought, however, that it is one of the places that incorporates locally produced ingredients less than almost any other great NOLA restaurant. This is not a criticism, I just get the sense that you could pick Stella! up and move it to almost any metropolitan locale, and it would not miss a beat. That is not to say the occasional oyster or shrimp app's are not made with local seafood, but rather that it is inventive, but without a lot of our regional epicurean eccentricities.

Wasn't it Boswell himself who, on AHWD, brought up the comment made about him that "the only thing local about Stella! is Scott Boswell"?

He was the one sharing that. Who made it originally?

I liked the response by ? (Harry Shearer?) about the intensity of the flavors marking it as LA.

I can say about other products but I have been that kitchen when Scott was cutting a whole fish he bought from a local guy. And by the way I claim Scott as a Lake Charles guy born and raised. He just went off to NO to get famous.
