I'm finally, finally, finally getting a driveway for my house. It's never had one and I've saved for a year to do two driveways and replace the sidewalks on my corner lot that are pushed up from cypress stump and crumbling. So was I surprised when the Jeff Parish building inspector popped up at my house yesterday morning. Apparently someone in the neighbor filed a complaint because we took our fence down and we put a shed in a few weeks ago. The fence was falling to pieces and I honestly don't know how it didn't collapse on it's own.
I figured we needed a permit for the shed but the guy at Lowe's insisted we didn't. So I'll pay whatever I have to for that but as for the fence, I haven't even thought about replacing it. And with the cost of concrete, I'm not sure when I can afford fencing. Can they really make me put a fence back up? There is nothing unsightly in my backyard. It's a nice big lot with green grass. I'd rather look at that than a fence.
I went online last night and found other complaints in my neighborhood. Someone keeps quite busy filing complaints. There was one against a guy on the next block who replaced his chain link fence with a boarded fence. I didn't know anyone would rather have chain link. There is a complaint against my next door neighbor for changing the grade of his lot. He actually raised it to be even with mine and the neighbor on the other side so I really don't understand the problem there.
Lots of FEMA trailer complaints but suspiciously none against the one trailer that is still there with the single mother and three kids who was just renting before the storm. I guess no one complains when your mother works for Harry Lee's gang.

Okay, got that out of my system. Time for coffee and some real work. :coffee:

That is just stupid. You must live around alot of old people. I find that they get bored and look for stuff to bitch about to keep themselves busy.

Sometimes I wish I had neighbors like that(well not really), but I wish someone would complain about my neighbor. He and his wife, his 2 grown children, their 2 children, and their boyfriends are always home and have their 6 cars parked all over the lawn. I've actually had to go over there and ask one of the daughters to move her car over a little so I could cut the grass on MY lawn. I just paid $10,000 for new siding, I'm remodeling the inside(slowly, but surely), we just got new streets and curbs put in, and every other person in the neighborhood is taking care of their property, but I have to live next to the white trash.

Other than this issue, they're nice people and we're good neighbors, but I don't want to complain b/c I'm afraid they'll find out it's me and then we'll have animosity between us. I don't want to live next to a bunch of people who hate me. It's a very touchy subject, but I plan on moving in 2 years and I'm afraid of the property value when people are coming to look at my nice, cute remodeled house and see the "parking lot" next door. Oh, and they only cut their grass like once a month too!! I cut mine twice a week right now!

I don't think there's anything I can do. Just bad luck of having bought a home next to white trash I guess.

I feel your pain, Globe9. I have a neighbor like yours. I had to call the police on many occasions and asked them to please not tell them it was me. I was afraid of retaliation. I put up with a lot of stuff, but them getting in fist fights in my front yard and laying in it bleeding and looking for lost keys (that the wife threw in my bushes under my bedroom window) at 3 oclock in the am, passing out in the driveway with the truck running and their foot on the accelerator reving...among many things. This will sound harsh, but the best months have been the last few, they are breaking up (no more crying and screaming outside) and one just got out of rehab and the other jail. Yay me.

Thank goodness I have a husband who can take off of work. He's been to the Yenni Bldg three times today and some inspector came by to say that I can't have my driveway the way I want it. I'm on a corner lot and I wanted to pull in from the front street and exit on the side. The inspector says you can't have two aprons on the same driveway. Somehow he thinks this is different than a circular drive. My neighbors in front of me all park on the street so it would be easier to do it that way. But I guess the parish wants me to back out and hit someone. Boy am I pissed off. My contractor was going to pour Monday but now he has to re-frame and the inspector has to come back on Monday.:mad::confused::covri:

I've seen driveways like you want. Must have had different inspectors. Ask to see the violation in the code book.

LauraMc, what site are you going to for complaints?

I'll admit I had to file a complain just this week. Didn't want to do it but I didn't have much choice. My house sits on a large lot so behind my property line I have three neighbors. One neighbor recently built a structure like a lean-to. It connects the back of his detached garage to my fence. So the rain run off runs in my yard. It is evident that to build it he had to be IN my yard. It is within the 3 foot margin. I still didn't want to complain but last week my young dog was barking madly and when I looked in the back a chilcken was standing ON the structure. The damn ugly thing sat there all night. My kids were afraid to play outside and I had to keep the dog inside all night. I peeked over the fence and he has all sorts of nasty chickens in there. Of course, they don't bother him because they are BEHIND his garage. So I complained. Two days ago, the dog was again barking viciously and the dude was IN MY YARD! He quickly hopped the fence back over. I should have called the police. I am now afraid to be inside when my kids are outside. What a jack a$$. Meantime, the code enforcement office didn't understand my problem. Wanted me to call the SPCA instead. I don't care if he has chickens in his yard. I just want the coop moved away from my fence!

I wondered about what site it is too. Can you tell us?

When I checked this morning, nearly all the 2008 complaints were removed. Makes me wonder if someone on this board works there.

The whole thing has turned into a big old mess. Now we have to wait on a supervisor to come out on Monday so we can't have the pour done. My husband had asked me which street I want to enter from and I said the side street. When I got home, the engineer had said I could enter from there but they left the driveway curved but stopping 2 feet from the sidewalk on the house side. What a moron! Why would I want to pull in at a curved angle and have to back out that way? His objection to the two sided driveway is that someone might use it as a U-turn. If I don't care, why should they? It's not like I'm on a busy street. We're next to the tracks for pete's sake!

I'll ask my brother-in-law about who to complain to for the chickens. He had the same problem and he didn't complain but someone did and they made the guy move his coop and then later made him get rid of them. It may have been the SPCA. The chickens kept escaping their coop and wandering into all the neighbors yards.
