Has anybody used one of these before?

Do they work as well (OK, nearly as well as an outdoor smoker?

Is there one brand that is better than another?

Recipe suggestions?

I have one (and, just for the record, I have all kinds of outdoors bbq and smoking equipment). I got it as a gift for something I did a while back and I have used it several times.

First, if you don't have a GOOD oven hood in your house, don't even think about it. It is, after all, a smoker and it smokes just like it's supposed to.

Other than that, I have actually enjoyed it quite a bit. When you just want to smoke a few pieces of fish, as I often do, it's pretty nice to have. Much easier and more economical than firing up the grill (they're all big and all are charcoal and wood burners). In fact, I used it last week and used some pecan chunks that I picked up on Nashville Ave an hour before I cooked the fish. I had some specks that I smoked, and then turned into fish dip. Delicious.

I like the thing. I'm not sure that I ever would have bought one, but I like the one that I have.

This is the one I have and I like it. I have even brought it down to the restaurant when one of the chefs wanted to use it.

I have the cameron like bear. I've had it for eons. I haven't used it in a while, but I should. I've smoked fish and chicken on it. Usually, I use the fish for cold green or pasta salads. I've also used the fish for smoked dips, in addition to entrees. One of my favorite uses is to smoke mushrooms.

When Emeril was at Commander's, he served a smoked mushroom with angel hair past app there, which was excellent. It has a cream sauce base. I believe it may be on his menu at Emeril's. The mushrooms are really good.

The smoker is convenient and I've never had a problem with the smoke. There really isn't much of it, if you use it properly.

Turns out, after some research (climbing up on top of my cabinets was the extent of it, honestly) that I have a Cameron, as well. Though, oddly, it has no trademark on it. I got it from the National Peanut Board for some pr writing I did for them a while back.

Since you people forced me to crawl up there and get it, as I type, I'm smoking a swell package of chicken thighs that I got a Rouse's at a bargain rate (they're on sale! Go buy some and stock the freezer!).

I'm going to make chicken and sausage gumbo out of some of them, and make chix salad out of the rest.

I'm using pecan again (this time sourced from a local politician's yard), let the thighs sit in some rub that I make myself, and they'll be good. I will say, again, that the smoke thing set the alarms off like crazy if I don't open the doors and say alot of voodoo prayers, but, other than that, I love the thing. Thanks for reminding me to use it.

Seeing that we reminded you of it, I think a taste-testing is in order! :)

Thanks! I'll be ordering one soon. I don't recall seeing the Cameron Brand locally!
