I keep reading and seeing people grilling salmon on the grill on a cedar plank. I just can't get my mind around the idea of putting my fish directly on a piece of wood. I just can't imagine the cedar imparting any sort of flavor that I associate with food.

Do any of you use this cedar plank grilling technique?

did this last week. soaked the plank in a bottle of rose first for about 2 hours. grilled the salmon on the plank. the salmon retained its flavor and stayed moist in the middle while having some very tasty crispy edges.

That must have been one small plank to fit inside the wine bottle!!!:D
(Sorry, couldn't pass it up). I have done this in the past using cedar shingles and redfish, but to me it wasn't worth the trouble. Now, I have also had it while dining out, and felt sure I could taste the difference, so I guess it's one of those YMMV type things.

too funny! sadly, it was actually a cooked Katrina wine, so we just filled up the sink and soaked the plank. and we found the plank while preparing to move; who knows where it came from it, as we can't remember buying it. could have been a gift. we usually grill fish wrapped in banana leaves with truffle oil. soaking the plank took no more trouble than cutting, soaking and wrapping the leaves.

This had been on NOLA's menu for years.
I did it a few times but the plank started looking better than the fish.
