OK. Best Onion Rings for me is Acme, Mandina's, and Mortons in Madisonville. Your turn!
My house. Chester's in Donner used to have the best, but their quality has disappeared. Mine are currently the best.

Charlie's Steak House. Big, giant, pile of greasy, delicious thin cut rings in the middle of the table is a vision that I hold dear at all times. Can't wait to see them again. Too bad Dottie won't be delivering them to me.

Joe Sepie's...but lately, I've enjoyed Shimmy Shack too.

I eat them very rarely but when I saw the topic, River Shack popped into my head.

A few favorites:
Seafood Pot, New Sarpy: Thick-cut (3/4"), house-made 3-5" rings. Large order only, unless you upgrade a fried seafood basket from fries to rings for extra $2.
Come Back Inn, Metairie: Medium cut (1/2"), house-made 3-5" rings. Sm. or lg. order. Fine black pepper in the batter adds dimenson of flavor.
Kenner Seafood, Kenner: Medium cut (1/2"), house-made 4-5" rings come perfectly stacked in a tapered cylinder. Sm. or lg. order.
I hear Fury's, in Metairie, are also very good house-made, but haven't had them myself.

Please tell me that all these places being mentioned have the old style battered rings and not that awful breading like frozen rings?

I would almost guarantee you wouldn't be disappointed by any of the ones I mentioned, nor even the one I said I hadn't tried, Fury's rep is that good. I had some the other day somewhere, can't remember now, but they were like onion paste inside circular tubes of breading. And don't get me started on the ones with the sugar-sweet batter.

My current favs are at "Poboy Express" in Baton Rouge. Very good, hand-made. I used to only allow myself ORs only a few times a year. Since discovering these, it's been a bit more often. They have several locations around town - mine is on Perkins near College (across from where the Bulldog will be soon).

The onion rings at Mr. Eds are really good.

the best ring to me use to be at bywater BBQ. They were great and served with their bbq sauce on the side. YUM.
I really need to get back over there and see if it's how I remember it.

I never ate their much, but Luther's BBQ also had great onion rings. always made to order. I really wasn't a big fan of anything else they had. But those rings, thinly sliced and fried in a loaf were great.

At Seafood Pot, I dip mine in the cocktail sauce, rather than ketchup. :tasty:

They were good, but they were so dag-gone greasy.......

There is a place called Roadhouse Grill on Lapalco in Marrero, and they have loafs in the style of Luthers now. Nothing else worth while, just typical chain steak place, where not many lunch options available.

I'm with LNS. The rings at Come Back Inn, Metairie and Fury's are excellent. I'd also like to add Village Inn to the list. Very similar to the CBI's. The only inconsistency for me is the amount of seasoning in the batter. I like mine well seasoned.
I am absolutely not a fan of the thinly sliced, greasy loaf. They always seem to be too soggy. I like crispy tasty batter.
Though I haven't had them in a very long time, Popeye's would be a second choice to the above..
