I haven't had mine since the thing. I need to get a new one...finally. Where do I go, what do I need?

Thanks in advance!

I went to the local Social Security Administration office, and told them I had lost my card and needed a new one. Of course, there was a little bit of a wait, but not too long. After filling out a couple of forms, and waiting, I was brought to the back office and had to answer a few questions. They then processed a new card for me. They mailed it out, and I received it in about 3-4 weeks.

I think there is an SSA office on Earhart between Carrollton and Jeff Davis.

EDIT - the website says 1515 Poydras, so that may no longer be correct (might have been pre-K).

Do you know where our local office is? I work in Metairie, so anywhere out here would be cool. Thanks

I went online and found a phone number for a national office and had them send out a replacement. Did not have to do anything in person.

1515 Poydras. Even though I drive by it every week, I have no clue if the office on Earhart is open.

you can download the form from the above website. they may have your info on file, so it may not be necessary to send in copies of proof of citizenship with the form.

I just checked my "important papers vault", and found I still have my original S/S card, from age 14 or 16, safely in a little plastic bag. It's over 50 years old. Does that make me strange or just lucky?

Does that make me strange or just lucky.....

I came across mine, too! I was getting things together for Social Security benefits when I found it. I'm eligible next month. :)
