I really can't believe it has only been seven years since it was introduced. It has totally transformed my world view.

Is that what you're driving?
I feel safer now...

We saw a guy riding one on Vets, just west of Bonnabel, headed east, not six months ago. To be fair, we also saw a guy on a motorcycle with (literally) a monkey riding on his back, along the same stretch.

Talk about overpromising and underdelivering. That solid state gyro/accellerometer tech is going to end up in a lot of other interesting places though.

then there is this:

A few days ago I saw a guy ride one up into my yard. I immediately went over there ready to hit him on the head with it until I realized he was a meter reader. How cool is that for reading meters. He simply gets near the gas meter and takes a quick digital pic of it, without getting off the segway.

Personally, I think it's a cool idea before it's time. There's just not that many safe places where it can be ridden.

Do you really own one of these things?

I started looking around, and the best price I found, for the cheapest stripped down model, is $4,498 at Sam's Club. When you add bells and whistles the price can exceed $13,500.

Just for the record, I do not own a Segway per se. I created my own design which essentially is a pogo stick attached to a wheel barrow powered by a lawnmower engine. Perhaps, you have seen me on the High Rise.

A Segway would be great if you lived in Washington DC, and visitors to the city can rent one there for the low, low price of only $150 a day. Capital Segway has used ones with less than 2500 miles on them for $4600 or models they've taken as trade-ins for $2500.

On your way to Visions or Adult Video?

Thanks Schuarta, I have seen them, didn't know that is what they were called.

Certainly not Adult Video. There's no place to put your porn on one of these things.

You were able to attach a hula girl bobblehead figure, so I think you're crafty enough to figure something out.

My sister is an event coordinator, and her company wanted her to "host" the Segway tours in Minneapolis. So of course, in her business clothes, she has to strap on a bike helmet and toodle around with tourists like a tool. I laughed so hard at that she didn't speak to me for a while.

I also found quite a few hilarious videos on You Tube of people eating pavement on Segways.

I am almost at the point now where I consider the introduction of the Segway a delination point in human history. I believe all time prior to December 2001 will be referred to as BS (Before Segway) and all time after that date will be referred to as AS (After Segway).

I think CRay should consider using city funds to buy 50,000 of them for the next evacuation.

See? There is always a solution if you just look!

I see them in airports in Europe being used by security and in the Twin Cities doing those tours someone mentioned.

There are tours in New Orleans that use them. A disabled friend of mine has a few of them. He was at FQ Fest on one. He tried to get it into Jazzfest, but they would not allow it (they did provide for him, at their expense, a scooter).

I am not disbaled, but I have problems (that are getting worse) with arthritis (it is genetic) and I may wind up on one of those things before too long.
