Julie & Julia at Canal Place.

---------- Post added at 09:49 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:23 PM ----------

So JAG and I are making out like a couple of teenagers while waiting for the elevator in the parking garage. The elevator doors open up and we stop making out long enough to enter the elevator and find this seriously elderly couple. The husband had a walker. So I throw JAG against the wall of the elevator and start to shove my tongue down her throat in front of the Octogenereans. She kinda pushes me away. And the elevator doors open. As we exit, the husband says "have a good night".

So when JAG suggested we go see Julie & Julia at Canal Place, I thought I was getting to see some arthouse lesbian love story. Unfortuntely, I was totally mistaken. The movie is about the insipid, parasitic Julie Powell as loathesome a woman who has ever been portrayed on screen, who becomes disgusted by her life as a secretary in NYC and decides to cook all 524 recipes in Julia Child's magnum opus Mastering The Art of French Cooking and blogging about it. The movie slides back and forth between Child's time in France and Powell's vapid existence in post 9/11 New York. This is mostly because the Powell source material, her blog and subsequent book about her blog, is so weak, it cannot sustain a 3 minute sketch let alone a 2 hour movie.

When watching the scenes with Child, one can only imagine how delightful and fulfilling a film about her larger than life personna would be. Unfortunately the viewer is brought crashing back to earth when the film cuts back to the scenes featuring Powell.

Not recommended.

That's what I figured, Bam. Had the opportunity to see a premier of the flick a couple of weeks ago.... blew it off. Sounds like I made the right choice.:toast:

Goodness this movie was beyond horrible. Like Bam said, the Julia Childs parts were interesting and very well done but the picture as a whole was a disaster. We almost left with about 30 minutes to go but instead just sat there and made out grossing out those around us. At least we made the experience more entertaining.

And for the record, I almost beat Bam in the elevator, but died laughing when it finally closed behind us. It was freaking hysterical.
