View Full Version : When are we going to demand changes in NOPD?...

I just finished reading an article in the paper about an officer acting like a jackass(I am offending the jackass here) in response to an instance involving a person with a gun in treme in front of a child care facility. Seems the person with the gun was also a cop who wanted to kick someone else's a$$ because they were partially blocking the pick up area.
Pitiful.

Last week with the incident on the bridge, the cop was being a wreckless jerk and should have been fired on the spot.

I am starting to think a federal police force might need to take over the city.

It'll be like this as long as Riley and Nagin are still in charge of this city. Maybe once we get rid of Nagin we can stand a chance of getting someone with sence to run the NOPD and stop this bull****.

If Riley and Nagin happen to be on a private plane and the plane happens to ... oh never mind, you know where I'm going.

Hi guys. :)

I just told my husband this story, ending by asking him, "Isn't this shocking??"

He said, "Nope".

(But, it should be!)

Un-effing believable.

When I go downtown i am just as worried about the NOPD as I am the criminals. I do not think it will ever change until we get a decent mayor who apoints a decent Police Chief. Hopefully that will happen next election, but I have my doubts.

I voted against Nagin in the last mayoral election. I'm curious whether anyone else who posts on this board did.

I voted against him, as well.

Envie, I think you know, as well as others do, that I was once a career cop with NOPD. I left much sooner than I wanted to due to the politics involved with earlier administrations. Riley has caused many veteran police officers to do the same and has also placed several qualified ranking officers in meaningless positions so as not to overshadow his inner circle. There's no hope for NOPD unless serious changes are made.

I deal with cops almost everyday. I am a huge fan of the police and the work they do. Without question, there is an element on NOPD that needs to go work for the Garden District security service. They have as much business being a cop as I do quarterbacking the Saints. The good news is there are numeropus cops who are out on the street making arrests, fighting the bad guys, and really do give a sh-t. They are probably some of the best police officers in the country. I can think of about 10 Sixth District officers who are Hall of Fame officers.

Amen, Bam! Thanks for the support. The dedicated ladies and gents out there in the trenches need it.

I'm a big fan of a lot of our 6th (my) district police officers but I am NOT a fan of Riley. I can't wait til he goes the way of the Hat.

I did NOT vote for Nagin after the storm, no way, no how.

I am happy to report that the woman cop involved in the incident that prompted this thread has now been suspended. Rah rah for the good guys.

Good - my wife saw this on the news last night and went ballistic! Me - I am just used to it.

Glad to hear this officer was suspended, and hopefully will be fired. I also heard on the news that this isn't the first time she's been in trouble.

Was listening to the Spud show yesterday while driving around for work and Mrs. Williams called the show(Ronnie Williams' wife--the police officer who was murdered by Antoinette Frank back in the 90's). She commented that while she didn't know whether this officer(the woman at the camp) was guilty or not, it sounded an awful lot like the stunts Antoinette Frank would pull back while she was on the force. She said Frank would fly off the handle and go into a rage over nothing and maybe, if the NOPD had done something about it, her husband and 2 other people, may have not been murdered. Listening to this sent a chill through me as Mrs. Williams is ABSOLUTELY right. I read the book about Frank and the killings called "Killer With a Badge" and this incident does sound like something Frank would have done. Maybe the officers who tried to "cover it up" should remember this, b/c 2 years from now, that officer could be shooting at them.

Oh, and I do have to say this. Yes, there are some bad apples on the NOPD and they get all the press coverage, but I know many NOPD officers who work hard, are honest, dedicated, and would do anything to protect you and I. These good officers don't have the media following them around when they are at work everyday helping make New Orleans a better place. Please don't forget that. The good officers far outweigh the bad. The bad just get all the press.

Good post, and I agree there are many good people on the NOPD. I should condem them all like I did in an earlier post.

My mistake, this post should read: I should not have condemed them all like I did in an earlier post.

And unfortunately, at NOPD, the good get suspended 15 minutes before they retire!!!!!!

And all of the good promotions.

The new slogan for NOPD

"No good cop goes unpunished - and no bad cop left behind".

Great quote Todd.

It's really pathetic that NOPD has these great campagnes going to recruit new officers but the only press they get is horribly negative.

I can't wait til Riley is gone pecan.

UPDATE: I just got a letter from Stuart Hall stating that Bobby Guidry has been hired as a full-time staff member as part of their security upgrades.

Good for him, and for all of us.

About eight Public Integrity Bureau officers showed up at the center first thing Thursday, said center employee Belden "Noonie" Batiste.

How many officers are assigned to the P.I.B.? In the 60's the, then named, P.B.I. (Police Bureau of Investigation} had two Agents, a Captain of Police and one secretary as its total staff.

Is that what they are calling the Internal Affairs division or is that something else?

I have always thought that internal police investigations should be conducted by non police personnel. Those not influenced by the administration. Retired police officers, for instance.

I am not free to discuss either case but I am aware of at least two PIB investigations that border on the nonsensical.

For those from outside of the area who may not have heard the update, both of the officers who were involved in these two instances were fired last week.

The Times Picayune is doing an in depth 8 party article about a homicide that took place earlier this year. Yesterdays part introduced us briefly to two of the detectives and went a little into the BS that they have to deal with on just about every murder case in the city. Some of the people they are dealing with are only slightly above animals in their reasoning abilities and behavior.
