I got that message. So, what does this switch mean for us? is vBulletin a better system?

Interesting! I just got the email myself. I think I will just stay here as long as this forum is jumping and the Admin is so on top of things. I think Leigh Landeche is a stand up guy and a hard worker, but I do not like dealing with Kimbalimba, and she will still probably be the primary moderator there. Leigh is to busy doing web development to moderate the forums.

vBulletin is what you are on here at nolaeats.com. Is it a better sytem? Indeed!

Yup, and the powerful vBulletin software has even enabled them to import all the old messages and users from FireBoard. Again illustrating what a great package it (vBulletin) is. We knew our actions, going in, would likely provide the well-needed kick in the pants at TOB, so we're not surprised.
We also told ourselves, up front, that we would commit to a year, even if it was totally at our expense, which, at this point, it totally is. We thank everyone for their support so far, hope you'll stick around and we'll still be talking here this time next year.

I receive an error everytime I go to their site and click on Forums. I have to pull up Task Manager and close that session.....it is the only way I can get rid of the error.
The funny thing is when Landeche was working for himself and had his own site he dipped into his pocket and paid the money for vBulletin as well. When going to work for someone and they want open source, then they get what they pay for. I am sure Leigh would have liked to use vBulletin from the start.

Just have to spread the word via emails, cell phone text etc.

You will keep your post count, Keep all your old messages, and keep you user names..
The only thing is your password needs to be reset, please check your email for instructions to reset your password, or follow this link

If you experience any problems please feel free to contact me at l.landeche@neworleans.com
Thank You,

And when clicking on the links, I get the message that the Internet Page can't be displayed.
What a bad time to do this... I mean... at this point, when no one is posting there anymore... to go offline for a day or so.... ??
You know, when their vbulletin software is up and running, blah blah... what you're still going to have there is the SAME management.
Admin, oh person of mystery... I really REALLY hope that this place stays alive. I don't wanna go back there. I've NEVER liked it over there. :(
I love the way you 'adminstrate', lol.
So!! Don't anyone go back over there, k? ;)

I would rather stay here as well. I think whoever Admin is did us a big favor. We were promised something by the millionaires that own TOB and they did not deliver until today. We have been asking for help for weeks and our cries fell on deaf ears until people started jumping ship.
I say "nuts" to TOB.

I'm staying right here. Same fun folks and a GREAT administrator.
I remeber after we launched the SMF forum over at nocom we had a serious problem with the speed of the sight. Concerns were posted on the forums, and I addressed them, and asked questions that would help me troubleshoot the issue. After three weeks I found that the stats program had some bad info cached in it and the problem was fixed with a reboot. I went to the forums and asked everyone how it was performing and got the info that things were better.
The moral of the story is communication with the users of your sight is very important and makes all the difference in the world. Having your pleas for help ignored is a good way to alienate your forum users.
I got a page not found error as well. DNS nees to propagate, probably.
No, it's a bad link. If you manually type in the address you can get there.
No, it's a bad link. If you manually type in the address you can get there.
I typed it in and still no luck, it is probably my DNS server - it has been acting up lately. I was at the datacenter yesterday and gave it good slap, but i guess that was not enough.
We've lost the vast majority of regulars here. Some are participating both here and elsewhere. Since their problems went unaddressed for so long, both their frustration and departure are understandable. So, the question is: how do we get them back?

We saw a problem and we were trying to figure out the best way to fix the problem, That is the reason for the new software not even a month after the launch of the other software.. We would love for the user base to return.. We are planning a new action towards moderation... And Its pretty safe to say this software will be around for a while, i have used it in the past for my personal forums.. It just took a little while to get to this point because it didn't really fit with the whole scope of the project that we are trying to do here.. but we will just have to make it work IMO this is by far the best forum software on the market..

The ironic thing is that kind of cheapness and unresponsiveness was really the hallmark of the previous neworleans.com site owner(s). I figured when Hammick et al got it they would actually inject some much needed money into improvements in order to take the site to the next level. Instead you get this epic fail. I wonder if they even surf their own site.

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss. I am not surprised by anything Hammack and Jones do. I seriously doubt they surf there own site. I hear they have 20+ people working there and not one of them took any time to address the problems of the forum users. Low-N-Slow had to run the tech support forum for them which I am sure he recieved no compensation.
In order to take the site to the next level IMO they need to change the business model. All they did is change the look and feel and ad a buttload more content. They did get a few new contributors and I like what Kenny Trahan is doing, but it is pretty much same ole same ole. The internet changes but nocom stays the same.

Way I see it is this--
Change upon change upon change, to the point the the last change was the breaking point.
So a new bar opens, and it's everything we were asking for; attentive bartenders, fast service, and a lot of old friends dropping in.
And when the old place sees it's patrons heading out the door, it suddenly decides to behave and straighten up.
So the question is this:
Do I abandon the new found hangout to give yet another chance to the old haunt, which will surely go through another metamorphosis yet again?
Kinda like leaving the new flame for the abusive ex.
I'm staying.

Appreciate it. As was said elsewhere, we could have made money betting on exactly what would happen in short order over at TOB after we turned this puppy on, and they were made aware of it. And it did, exactly. We guess imitation is indeed the sincerest form of flattery.
Oh, and this is not Alex.

I am staying here for now. The conversation flows better and we seem to be much more active than we have been in several previous incarnations of the board. I really do think an agenda driven food expert, moderating, chiming in on every thread frustrates discussion.
Furthermore TNOB STILL doesn't tell you when you have a PM.

Actually, I had to send an email to the admin to get my password reset over there. I stop in occasionally to see if there is anything going on, and it reminds me of a ghost town! Actually, that's not entirely true; there is a lot of traffic over there on the EMF board, but pretty much everything else is populated by employees (Lorin, Kim, Admin, etc.) and a few "favorites" like Feng, etc., and there are only a handful of messages.

She is no doubt jealous of the heaps of praise dumped on Leigh for fixing the boards, and is therefore posting trying to get all her board buddies back after she ignored them for so long.
...and as far as LNS - Kim should break off a little of her check and send it to him for manning the technical support forum for her. He did it for over a year.

Yes, I figured that. When it first went up I went over there and read quite a bit, especially around Katrina. It was fascinating. I meant to go back and read more and copy some recipes, so I'm still hoping they'll resurrect it again.

I received an email at the address in my account, telling me I needed to click the supplied link in order to reset my password. The link had my same email address visible at the end of it. So far, I have used that same link over a dozen times without success. Posts by admins at TOB seem to indicate that those having trouble are only those who changed the email address in their account to something bogus, in order to stop the receipt of system-generated emails. All that tells me is those are the users who should have never received the password reset email at all, and it is only they who should be experiencing a problem. Apparently, that is not the case.

I was able to reset my password without a glitch as have several others. I will say, the mailer system was running a bit slow as it took the system about 30 minutes to send me the automated reply. I was also able to create a new account fairly easily. About as easy as it was to set up a new account here.
If you were clicking the link over and over, then you might (i used the word might, a word with a subjective meaning) have locked out your account and now only an admin can unlock it and.
As for a bad email address being a problem, thatis merely one of many things that could cause the system to break down and not send you the link, which you got, but couldn't get it reset. Did the page open up when you clicked the link? What was on the page if it did. If the page didn't, then sounds like you might have something wrong in the file assocations with your machine. If the link was truncated, then you might have to actually cut and paste it into the address bar to make it work properly.
hope this helps.

Did all that. Both ways. File associations? No. Link not truncated. Took me to password reset page with email address in link already filled in. Pressed button. Returned me to forum home page. You get locked out by supplying the wrong password too many times, not by trying to have a reset link emailed to your registered address.

Interesting. That's the same process I went thru, and after about 30 minutes, I had an email with a new password in it sitting in my mailbox. the system had reset it and I loged in with the new password and then changed it to what I wanted.
I know Leigh is in the process of getting the old archives back up on the new server. We were talking about it earlier. Hopefully he can find a minute and get your account squared away.
