Lunch was a roast beef po boy dressed, fries and a barq's at Parkway Bakery. I have heard many accolades of their roast beef being the best in town. While it is quite good, I didn't think it packed the flavor punch of some of the other RB po boys around town. Their fries are outstanding and are a must order. Hot, crisp on the outside, creamy on the inside. Top shelf. I like the way the menu has evolved here over time. I remember when there were only like 4 things on the menu. Now, there are numerous takes on New Orleans' most beloved sandwich, the po boy. Recommended but I am more likely to try other stuff next time I go back.

My girlfriend and I had lunch there on Friday. We split a catfish/shrimp poboy. It was WONDERFUL!

And what the heck is UP (pardon the pun) with that house next door? lol

Dude, you're on crack...the roast beef there is the best roast beef in the city...simply for the fact they roast the beef daily!!! Tho, guess since Stein's doesn't thats not a priority for you....

Bam I agree with you regarding their RB. Good, not great. Anyway, while not Bruning's (sigh) quality, their shrimp are very good.

Last night we went to R&O Restaurant (Bucktown, USA) for the first time in probably two years. I had always been mildly disappointed by R&O's fried seafood, but I now realize I've been ordering wrong all these years.

In addition to being a veritable museum of recognizable New Orleans stereotypes (John Kennedy Toole could have populated a couple of novels with the tables located immediately around ours), R&O serves what is likely the best roast beef based poor-boy sandwich in the city, the R&O Special. Roast beef, ham and Swiss cheese with roast beef gravy on Italian seeded bread. Unbelievably delicious.

It leaves the Parkway roast beef poorboy in the dust.

peychaud, that's the only thing I ever order at R&O's. I keep saying I'm going to branch out.... my husband says their gumbo is good. But man oh man... that's soooo good. And I don't go there often enough to branch out, you know? lol

Parran's in Metairie has something similar, it's called the Veal Supreme. It's a panned veal cutlet with swiss and brown gravy on french. arrrrrrrrgh....

But R&O's is better.

I think Parkway's gravy is better than the actual beef itself. Try the following: Fried shrimp, swiss cheese and roast beef gravy, dressed however you like. It's unreal, at Parkway or other spots as well.

Can't quite figure out the piece of c r a p house next door either, 20 feet off the ground. It does have a nice new roof on it if you get far enough away to see it, but the rest of the house is rotten

Try the (I think) Italian sandwich. Meatball and Italian sausage with red gravy. It's fantastic.
