View Full Version : well, I guess we knew this was coming
"Well, as President Obama indicated during the campaign, there are just a few gun-related changes that we would like to make, and among them would be to reinstitute the ban on the sale of assault weapons. I think that will have a positive impact in Mexico, at a minimum." - Attorney General Eric Holder

How the hell are we to protect ourselves from the criminals in New Orleans who possess FULLY automatic weapons, which have been banned since 1933, when we can not buy SEMI-automatic weapons with 20-30 round magazines? Why is there no serious effort underway to rid the streets of these dreaded illegal FULLY automatic weapons? How are people in rural areas to protect themselves when the nearest police station may be 30 miles away if they cannot purchase a SEMI-auto rifle?
If they are serious about preventing the spread of the legal weapons to Los Zetas and the like, then toughen up on straw purchases and tighten up the border. The Mexican border officials need to do their part as well. Crime in Mexico and US border towns should not dictate firearms laws in the entire U.S.

Gun shows in Reno are "booming"! At the biggest show, at the Grand Sierra (formerly the Hilton, Ballys, the MGM Grand), three times a year, at the December show, the full length of the longest wall was one ammunition vendor. They sold out the first day (of 3) and had to truck in more stock the next morning. After making your purchase, they provided hand trucks (about 20) to take your purchase to the car. There was a continous parade of people with full hand trucks to the parking lot.
Next show in April, I'll be manning the Friends Of NRA booth, promoting our Event/Banquet this summer. You have such an event coming in April, and I suggest you support FNRA and attend. You'll have a great evening and could win one of 100 or more items.

Just got a call from Dom. The gun show in Slidell is PACKED. Not one empty table. (as opposed to the last gun show in Jefferson Parish). Said that prices seemed to have increased a little. (which is to be expected)

AR prices have shot through the roof since the election. I think I may purchase one today.

One rumor making the rounds (besides Obama wanting to put indentifing marks on casings and bullets, traceable back to buyers) is primers that have a shelf life of six months. Eliminate the stockpiling of ammo.
May explain the huge ammo sales in Reno???? Rumor may be gaining legs?

That would explain a lot. I saw one web site that sold out 2.4 million rounds in 36 hours. We are also arming the Iraqi's with M16 type weapons, so there will probably be no surplus from the Lake City armory either.
I will be at the next show in JP as well.

I've also heard the shelf life primer rumor. Some of the guys I work with have been seriously stocking up. Ammo is definitely harder to find (and more expensive) in both 5.56 and 7.62 both locally and online. I'm looking forward to the Kenner show.

Here is an interesting article from Ron Paul's website:
It refers to the "rumor" comment I made on identifying purchasers/maintaing data base on buyers.

I know there are NO .223's at Academy. Shelves always bare.
"Shortages of ammunition and firearms can be expected to continue for as long as it appears our overreaching federal government is a threat to our individual liberties, our economy continues to falter, and our police agencies keep militarizing."

Went down (600 ft & 2 mi away) to Cabala's to pick up a shirt I had ordered (3XL). Spoke with a clerk I know. He said that the Reno Cabala's had received a large load of .223, in 1,000 round cases last Monday, and by Friday they were all gone! He said the AVERAGE purchaser bought three (3) cases!!!
There is so much to say here, that I am not going to say anything..............
I picked up half a case of Lake City 55gr. ball at the gunshow. They had a good bit of it, but it was moving quickly. ARs were up $300 since last August and AKs were up $350. The crowd was larger then normal, but not unreasonable.

What were they previously? That just doesn't seem that high...

Half case (500) of .223 going for about $165 here. What did you get it for?

$249 but I got the 5.56 xm193 with the NATO headstamp - that is still a big price difference though. The cheapest stuff I saw was the Euro PPU green tip for $212 for 500 rds.

Ar-15's were running $850 to $1200 last August depending on brand and configuration. The cheapest I saw Sunday was $1200 for a Rock River Carbine with no rear sight. DPMS A2 models were going for $1200. Smith & Wesson carbines were going for $1400.
Romanian AK-47's were going for $425 last August and are now selling for $799.
