Me and a buddy are on a quest to find the best burger on the Northshore and I'm looking for any suggestions anyone may have!
Our favorite so far is Sweet Daddy's (whose BBQ I'm not a big fan of). A big half pound hand formed burger perfectly grilled. Really, really good.
I appreciate your thoughts!

Get a cheap little weber grill, some charcoal and some ground chuck,
plus buns, cheese and whatever else you desire.
It's so much better than anything else.
Seriously.
Try it just once.
OH, add beer or a really good red wine.
Times Grill, although I'm not very traveled on the NS

Spudly, thanks so much.
I've never thought of that.
Ever.
I find your suggestion especially useful during the workday. I know I certainly have time to go back home, light charcoal and grill burgers during my lunch hour (or half hour or 15 minutes). Or maybe, when you said "little" you meant so that I could keep the Smokey Joe in my trunk, and when I felt the need for a wonderful, juicy cheeseburger I could simply pull over on 190 and put on my flashers and use my fully stocked cheeseburger igloo kit that I always keep in my car to fire one up. Thats a great idea, and really practical!
Spudly, please know I've grilled burgers at least just once, but thanks for the suggestion anyway. Was there something stupid about my question? What's the deal around here lately?

Hey, sweetie-
I'll echo Buzd suggestion..... Times Bar and Grill.... either Covington or Slidell. Promise me you'll get an order of onion rings, too! (the onion ring thread is what caused me to stop there the last time!) Yummy!

Jesse, my son lived on the Northshore for a few years, and we were big fans of the Times. The hamburgers were way too big for my tastes... but the meat is awfully good, and cooked well.

Times has really good burgers and GREAT onion rings. I'm also a HUGE fan of the burgers at N'Tini.
A few weeks ago ate a great burger @ some new place in old Mandeville. Can't remember the name. The guy owned the Double nickle before, & couldn't sell hamburgers for one year. His year just passed bout one month ago.

I echo the Time Grill. (I prefer the one in Mandeville to the one in Slidell though) especially the bar post renovation. Nice. Huge burgers and cold beer! YUM
Lees Hamburgers are good (they opened on 21 in Covington) but they are a little pricey.

Is it the Rusty Pelican?
I think he used to have something to do with Times Grill....I may have my rumors mixed up here but I know he was involved w/ some other burger joint over there.
I rarely travel to the Northshore to eat but I did go to play golf a couple of months ago and we ate at the Times Grill and I thought it was great.

I like Times, and Lee's too. There's actually one (Lee's) in Covington now, I think it's relatively new but I'm not sure. The beer is always awesomely cold at Times. I was disappointed with Zea's Burger, but I should have known it would suck because Tom recommends it so highly. I think Ground Pati's burgers are pretty decent too. I love the cheeseburger po-boy at Rags, spudly. Damn good.
I'm gonna check out the Rusty Pelican too. Where exactly is it?
What about Phil's Grill?

I had heard that Phil's Grill on the Northshore had closed. Anyone? Class?

True. Our server today in Metairie said the location wasn't good, and they just weren't doing anywhere near the business they do over here. She said they're exploring the possibility of another place on the southshore.

I've somehow ended up at Times like 3 times in the last week and I've had good food each time. They have a $5.99 bailout menu with like 7 or so items on it, and one of them is a burger made with two 1/4 pound patties. It's really good. Another thing on that menu is a crawfish etouffee, which was shockingly good for something coming from a burger joint.
I saw the Rusty Pelican Sunday on the way to The Broken Egg and I hope to go there within the next week.

I'm going with the new Barley Oak burger (see Bier thread).
No, I haven't had one, but I could drink 3 various pints, throw the burger out the window, and have 3 additional pints for dessert. Maybe even the chocolate!

Jesse, I'm glad you had a good experience at the Times. I think besides having good food, it's a friendly place, too. I look forward to your report on the Rusty Pelican. :)

Times Grill is bland. In the old day,s before corporate expansion, they were the bomb (way back when they were adjacent to and part of Marley's).
The best burger on the northshore is Abita Brew Pub (Magic Burger with grilled onions). Have not tried Barley Oak or Rusty Pelican, yet.

Not that you're biased right Turbodog ;)
I haven't been to Times before my last few trips, and in my experience their food (including burgers) don't fit my description of bland.
I've been planning a trip to the Brewpub for a Burger, so hopefully you're right!

Not biased at all. The owner/operator of the brewpub (Martin Essaied) is an old friend of mine. But, so are many of the northshore's leading restaurant owners/chefs (not to name drop, but these inlcude Ken Lacour/Kim Kringle of Dakota, John Besh of LaProvence, Wally Simmons/Thomas Smith of Nuvolari's, Sal Impastatto of Sal & Judy's, and more).
I make the best burgers at home, but as far as going out, I put Abita Brew Pub's burgers up against any others out there. I do want to try Rusty Pelican, as David McGuire has a track record that is good (Hero's, Triple Nickel). And I think Barley Oak will be a good place when they get settled in (I need to go for a beer; I had been waiting almost daily for them to open, then kind of pushed it out o fmy mind, and now they are open and from what I hear, crowded.

It was a joke Turbodog. But I'm glad to know you're friends with so many famous people. Can I have your autograph?
I'm also looking forward to the Rusty Pelican & Barley Oak.

I know it was a joke, Jesse. My friendship with chef's/restauranteurs goes back to my radio show with Chef Chris in the 80's and my wife's running ofthe food heritage stage at jazzfest for over 10 years (she pretty much created it and was involved form its inception; I got to meet an dknow many fine people like Frank Brigtsen, Richard Hughes, Susan Spicer, etc.
But none of that means anything.
I'll be happy to meet you for a burger at Rusty P or the new brehouse. I'll buy the beeer.
Let me know. Kerry from Bush might want to join us.

I'm not much of a beer drinker myself, but didn't they have a raspberry flavored one? Was that called Purple Haze? LOL, I always wanted to taste it, I love raspberry.
The burgers at that place are very good.

Backstrap, the Strawberry Harvest brew will be out very soon.
Then look for the satsuma wit in about 3 months.
