Yesterday, K-Paul's began opening for lunch. Wife went today and had White Beans, $10. Good, but she wished she had stayed with her plan to get the Gumbo. He was sitting in front of restaurant talking customers in.

They are going to be open for lunch Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 11 AM. It will be a “deli style” set up with a sandwich, soup, gumbo, salad menu “to go” , however there will be some tables if you want to stay and eat there. Prices are reasonable and the food….as Paul says "Good cookin', good eatin', good lovin'!"

I think last year, he opened one day for lunch...Lundi Gras. This should last longer, hopefully remain full time.

Good news. He used to serve an outstanding oyster po boy for lunch.

I've never been to K-Pauls, but I've really been meaning to go lately. The lunch may be the answer!

Uh...Judi...Paleese! Hit me up if you need some coin before your OB's Stimulus hits home. I heard you may get up to $13/week. Pass it to Paul! Heck the Happy Meals at McD's must be close to $5 by now!

Here is what you get with your Butter Beans (sorry, wife said White, Menu says K-Paul's Famous Butter Beans): "Butter Beans Smothered with Herbs and Spices (Yeah! Talking Paul P here!), Onions, Bell Peppers, Celery (no mention of any salt content), Garlic, Chicken, Tasso, Andouille Sausage, Duck and Chicken Stock. Served with rice."

Here is what you get with your Jambalaya for that enormous cost of $10.95:
"A traditional Rice Medley made with Chicken, Andouille Sausage and Tasso. Simmered for hours. Combined with Rice and served with a Rich Sauce Piquant. Served with Fried Chicken fingers."

Hell, Fried Chicken Fingers at McD's must be close to $5!

Judi, have you been to K-Pauls? You REALLY need to go! To get any dish he comes near is well worth triple the price! Any Price! :toast:

Other menu items from last week:
Chicken & Andouille Gumbo, Cream Of Broccoli Soup, Roasted Fresh Beet Salad, Fresh Spinach Salad, Fried Chicken Caesar Salad.

For Sandwichs & plates:
Deep Fried 8" Pistol (Oh, no Po-boy. Guess this covers it for $10.00), Muffaletta (5" bun-$8), Marinara Meat Ball Pistol ($8), Baked Citrus Chicken (2 pieces $12.95) Fried Catfish chips with Fried Onion Rings and Cool Caper Dill Tarter Sauce (think someone said onion rings last week were approaching $10).

I dunno. Seems like the best value in a lunch I have heard of in eons...

Just wish I was downtown! :(

Whoever goes, please find out if this extends past Mardi Gras.

I've always loved lunch at K-Paul's.

How much worse can it be than Stanley's (awful) Korean kimchee po boy for $17? FWIW, years ago Paul's oyster po boys ran around $13 and were definitely worth it.

Have you been to Drago's lately? Out of town friends wanted to go. All poboys were over $10.

We ordered
1 dz. raw
1 dz. charbroiled
2 BBQ shrimp poboys
1 c. gumbo
1 bowl gumbo
1 beer

Total = $100 and change

I think taste-wise, K-Paul's is a bargain compared to Drago's.

I think Dragos thinks way to highly of their chargrilled oysters. It has really gone up over the last few years. We now make them at home. Although Grilliots has/had them 1/2 price on Tues/Thursdays. Not sure it they still do.

Had lunch at K-Paul's. Husband had the very flavorful fried shrimp on a pistolette with waffle "fries" ( turned out to be chips). I had a cup of excellent chicken andoulle gumbo and the fried bacon wrapped oysters en brouchette w/ meuniere and seafood rice. This came w/ a side salad. Bleu cheese dressing was not good. Oysters tasted fishy, meuniere was some sort of congealed glop that tasted as bad a it looked. Rice was no better. $36 w/ 2 teas.

Ouch! that is a tough review.

I have never had anything but outstanding food from K-Paul's. I have the utmost respect for Paul and he has an unbelievable ability to blend seasonings. I am truly surprised you had a bad experience.

Are you going to let them know?

Oh my! So very sorry to hear that, especially after I gave Chef P props...
I'm stunned!
Now let's find out who started this thread and give them a good scolding!

We had three plates, pistolette, gumbo, and fried oysters w/ rice/ side salad. As stated previously, the first two were excellent, the third was awful. "2 out of 3 ain't bad"'. We have been in love with Paul's food since he opened. Every meal was stellar, always worth waiting in line. Nowadays, not even close. I doubt that third plate would have come from his kitchen. The reins have been handed over and it shows. Mrs. Fury, Complaining to rest. is something I don't do. I prefer to vote with my feet.
