The website TMZ had a dude who posted a play-by-play recap of Lost on Thursday mornings..... (partying with friends).

I don't see him on TMZ yet.

Do you still have the direct link to his LOST board? (always loved reading posts on his foum)

Get a load of this scenario on Daniel's site!

Is anyone familiar with Eternal Recurrence (goes back to the Egyptians, but was popularized by Nietzche)? Idea is that the Universe has been recurring, and will continue to recur in a self-similar form an infinite number of times. The basic premise is that the Universe is limited in extent and contains a finite amount of matter while time is infinite. The universe has no starting or ending state, while the matter it is made of is in a constantly changing state. The number of possible changes is finite, and so sooner or later the same state will recur- i.e. eternal recurrence. (Talking Heads- Same as it ever was, same as it ever was, same as it ever was.) Physicists such as Hawking and Gott proposed models by where the Universe could undergo time travel provided the balance between mass and energy created the appropriate cosmological geometry. So that’s is what is happening on the island, time is infinite, the matter (the island, think of the initial place on the beach, is finite, and the losties are shifting from one place in time to another riding the matter train thru time. Surely they will be back to the Black Rock days soon. Also would posit that Walt is a time traveler as well and his abilities were recognized early on by Ben and Richard and the Others and that is how he visited Shannon and Locke at various times.

OK-

One more thing, and then I'll shut up about this show.....

Do you remember when Richard visited Locke as a little boy? He brought him some items to choose? Remember the compass from last night?

Now, check this out:

Richard brought a baseball mitt, the Book of Laws, a vial of sand, a compass, a comic book (with a polar bear on an island on the cover), and a knife.

richard asked young locke, which of these belong to you ALREADY.

locke picked the sand, the compass, and the knife. when he picked the knife, richard asked him if he was sure and locke said yes. then richard got upset and left. it seemed richard wanted him to pick the book of laws instead, but one cant be sure i guess.

Those are some interesting theories. I enjoyed the heck out of it! I am in TV heaven right now with Lost, BSG, and 24 all going at the same time. It is a good thing because with the Jericho incident and the writers strike things were pretty bad for a while.

It looks like the ratings were decent, but I was expecting at least 13 million. Fox's new show made a hell of a debut!:

Though of course American Idol was the most watched program of the night, at 9pm, the series premiere of Lie to Me drew more viewers than the return of LOST. In the 9pm hour Lie to Me averaged 13.188 million to LOST’s 11.656 million between 9pm-10pm. Lie to Me and LOST tied in the 18-49 rating for that hour, with a 5.2 rating.

But included in that mix are three minutes of American Idol (which averaged 25.43 million between 8p-9pm) and the news isn’t all great for FOX. Lie to Me averaged 14.996 million and a 5.9 rating among 18-49 year olds between 9p-9:30p, but only 11.379 and a 4.5 between 9:30p-10p (LOST actually beat it in the second half hour). - source tvbythenumbers.com

My head is ready to explode, Alex:

I think the old lady at the end of the episode is Daniel's mother, I also think she is Penny Widmore. I think Daniel is Desmond's son and that mother and son have been searching for the secrets of time travel and the island in order to save Desmond. The previews for the season show Penny in labour. Desmond is Daniel's constant. Farraday sounds a lot like 'for a day' which could refer to bouncing through time. The old lady spoke with Desmond about making the right choices previously. She was ensuring her son's future?

ps: I agree with Jen#3, bring back Steamy Keamy!! A back story on him would be nice!!

Posted by: Jen#4 | January 22, 2009 01:50 PM

WOW! Sounds logical (????)

I wasn't real crazy about last night's ratings, but time will tell.

Alex
01-22-2009, 08:48 PM
Jen #3 is right - poor character development with Keamy the mercenary. Carol and the gang did a much better job with John Goetz on Jericho. Perhaps we will find out more about Keamy in future episodes.

So much to talk about with this show - so many questions - it is almost enough to make my head explode as well.

This is a pretty complicated show, it is almost complicated to a flaw, almost. I think for a serialized drama of this caliber getting more then 11 million viewers is good. Considering that many of the highest rated shows require an IQ no higher then that of a fish, I find it refreshing that it gets as many viewers as it does.

Holy Sh*t!!!!!!!!!! Was this great, or what?

Reading the previews, I was expecting to be confused, but now have clarity....

Charlotte "Charley" IS the child of Desmond/Penny.

Starting to "understand" this time-travel theme more, and digging it.

Wasn't going to even watch last weeks' repeat, but when I saw that they had the "pop-up" narrative, couldn't turn away.

I'm enjoying this season more than any other. Apparently, not many feel the same way. This from Perez Hilton:

Bad news for ABC!

Their once hot show, Lost, seems to be in the crapper. Big time!

For the fourth week in a row, the show has lost ratings every episode since it's recent premiere.

The last episode pulled in only about 9.8 million viewers, which was a 6% dip from the episode before that.

At its best, the show was pulling in over 20 million viewers weekly.

Guess this means the Lost won't be picked up past its scheduled ending date in 2010.

And, surprisingly, Fox's American Idol is doing rather well in comparison. It brought in 24.3 million viewers Wednesday night.

Time for some new programming!

Alex
02-13-2009, 05:03 PM
I am not sure why the numbers are dipping. I think this is the best season they have had in a while. I feel the last episode aired was not quite as good as the others this season, but serial dramas often have an episode or two per season where they set you up for something big next week.

A good example is this seasons Battlestar Galactica. The episode "A Disquiet that Follows my Soul" was a little tame compared to others, but the next two were awesome. Last Friday's episode "Blood on the Scales" was the best episode of TV to air so far in 2009, so I am more then willing to give last weeks episode of Lost a pass, and hope that next weeks episode rocks the house.

I think the major problem with shows like Lost and BSG is they require intelligent viewers, and intelligent viewers seem to be a dying breed. People are a lot more interested in stuff like AI and the like. AI is a big problem for good TV shows. It was very instrumental in taking viewers away from our beloved Jericho.

I would not count Lost out yet though. If it can hold 9 million viewers ABC may keep it. CBS has kept The Unit around for a while and has consistently pulled in ratings between 7.8 to 8.5 million viewers, so we will have to just wait and see.

Alex
02-13-2009, 05:13 PM
More on the ratings:

...while Lost sank 11 percent to a series-low 9.76 mil. (That said, Lost was for a fourth straight week Wednesday's highest-rated scripted show in the key demos, and it built its audience from start to finish.)

http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/tvguide/399868_tvgif12.html

The key word in the above statement was SCRIPTED! - lol ...and Lost is not some scripted formulaic crime drama either, it is a serialized sci-fi genre show. I think it will be around for a few more seasons, but that is just my opinion. I would be a lousy network exec because I would kill all the reality shows, and that is what is bringing home the bacon right now for broadcast TV.

Alex
03-06-2009, 11:21 AM
This show continues to not disappoint! I really enjoyed this weeks episode. What is Sawyer gonna do now that Kate is back and he is shacked up with Juliet?

The ratings are back up over 10 million viewers as well.

From tvbythenumbers.com:

The Lost vs. Lie to Me duel that looked so interesting earlier in the season now is only much of a battle in terms of total viewers. In the youth demos, Lost is now winning handily. Lie to Me will drop some in the finals due to American Idol overrun, and it’s half hour drops are still fairly noteworthy. It dropped from 11.14 million the first half with a 3.9/10 (rating/share) in adults 18-49 to 9.24 million in the second half hour with a 3.3/8.

Did ya see Ben on TMZ? He's not so creepy in real life.

That is good to know because aside from Admins point regarding being always looked beat up, he is kind of creepy looking even when not beat up. This weeks episode should be interesting. I think we may see Ben transition from an antagonist type character to a more sympathetic character. He holds a lot of guilt over his "daughter", and his close encounter with the smoke monster MAY have cured his evil ways.

Since the Battlestar wrap up I have to say this is currently my favorite show on TV right now.

Hi Alex-

I spend entirely too much time on Lost forums Thursday mornings.... read a couple of things....

Perhaps FARADAY is Jacob. (can't remember the reasoning, but it sounded logical yesterday morning.) ;)
*******************************
Also, when Locke heard Jacob say "save me", it might mean that Jacob is being held in some type of limbo.... and by killing him, he'd "set him free" and put him out of misery.

Is that Kate a selfish bitch, or what? I hate that broad!

I don't think that was LOCKE, baby..... it was Jacob's nemesis from the opening scene as they were watching the ship come in..... said something about finding a loophole to kill him. I think the loophole was Locke's death. Noticed that the "New Locke" was pretty much an arsehole.... cause it wasn't him! Good vs. Evil, although uncertain which is which.

Someone posted that Jacob was the evil one, toying with individuals, making them visit the island.... and his enemy was sick of it. Dunno. Episode was ab-fab, though! :)

You "lost" me. I don't get it. What am I missing?

Sorry, boss.... I should've prefaced it with this:

http://www.tmz.com/2009/07/13/man-claims-he-got-lost-first/#comments

Anthony Spinner -- a producer on "Baretta" and "Babes in Toyland" -- says back in 1977 he was paid $30,000 to write a TV pilot, which eventually became a 121-page script called "Lost."

Spinner is now suing ABC and Touchstone Television, claiming the network passed on the show in '77, '91 and '94 ... then suddenly created an exact replica with Touchstone in 2004.

Spinner lists a ton of similarities in his suit -- which was filed on July 10 -- notably an "airplane headed to Los Angeles [that] crashes into a tropical jungle-like environment."

Spinner also alleges the new "Lost" characters -- including Jack, Locke, Sayid, Kate and Sawyer -- are all rip-offs ... down to their occupations and dark pasts.

The comparisons go on and on. Spinner is suing for damages and a cut of royalties, profits and a bunch of other stuff. Spinner tried to sue a few years ago, but it was dismissed for procedural reasons.
-----------------------------------------------
Apparently TMZ has this slightly wrong.... this is not a new lawsuit... he filed it after the 1st season. Too close for comfort, as far as I'm concerned. When you have time, the comments are pretty good at the above link.
--------------------------------------------
40. He filed this lawsuit FOUR YEARS AGO. (Not recently as TMZ would have you believe)

Here is a link to the article on the lawsuit. Check the date on the piece.
