The wind picked up about 4:00 pm, Thursday, and by 9:00 pm was blowing a constant 25-40 mph. In that time period it began to snow - and snow - and snow.

Downtown Reno is 4,600 feet ASL. We're at the west edge going toward the Sierra's (Truckee 20 mi, Tahoe 30 mi) at 5,350 ft.

It's now 3 am. The wind and snow have been howling all night. The house shakes at the big gusts. I can't sleep. Checking the weather on line, I80 is CLOSED at the CA/NV line (4 miles from me) through to Colfax, CA (74 miles). Gusts at the higher elevations on this route, at the ridge crests, were measured tonight at 120 mph - repeat 120 mph (not a typo). West-bound trucks are backed up through the city of Reno, along I80, for miles.

As soon as we have some daylight, I'll try for some pictures. Until the wind dies, our new snow blower will be useless. I would be reluctant to even try to raise the garage door with this wind blowing so hard.

Damn this Global Warming!

Daylight now, still strong winds, I80 has opened to chain(ed) vehicles, not as much snow depth as I might have guessed. Funny drifts. One section of relatively new fence between neighbor and I, completely blown away.

...strange year weather wise. Last week it snowed here and this week it has been in the upper 70's - Good luck with all that snow and wind! That does not sound like much fun.

I saw that when I punched up New Orleans weather yesterday. Almost unbelievable spread.

We had wind and about 1-2 inches last night. I just came in from about an hour on the snow blower. My driveway and two neighbors.

Damn global warming!

Well at least you can have fun with the new toy (snow blower) until the novelty wears off.

Merry Christmas!
